It's official!!  The DCI Board has voted to grant the Blue Stars Division 1 status!!  This is just so incredible.  For those of you who don't know, the Blue Stars are a founding member of DCI, and placed 2nd at the first DCI Finals in 1972.  We have been competing in Div 2/3 for over 20 years now after the loss of our main funding source.  When I started marching the Blue Stars in 2002 it was made very clear to us that there was this legacy, and every year is a step toward realizing the corps' collective dream of returning to our home in Division 1.  That was always there for me and the other members of the Blue Stars during the 3 years that I marched.  People often asked me why I didn't go march Division 1, when me and many of the people I marched with could have easily made it into a top Open Class corps.  Well, I think for all of us that it was more important to be a part of this tradition and be part of making a dream come true.  Maybe that sounds cheezy, but that's just how it was.  And now I am so happy and so proud to have been a part of that, because we have achieved that which has eluded us for so long.  Our corps motto is Finis Coronat Opus, which means "The End Crowns the Work."  It has applied to every run-through, every day, every show, and every Finals with the corps, and now it has come full circle with this dream being realized.  Now for that Division 1 Championship . . .

So I went to the Chevelle concert last night.  Fucking rocked.  It was at the Venue of Scottsdale (which is pretty small) and of course sold out.  The opening band, Black Maria, played a short set and they were pretty good.  And then Taproot came out just whipped everyone into a frenzy.  I was in the mosh-pit for the beginning of the set, and I could take it, but I wasn't strong or heavy enough to STAY IN.  I kept getting pushed out, so I was like Fuck this.  I started making my way up to the stage, where this dumb guy made it his life's mission to keep me from getting past him.  It was pretty packed, yeah, but there was room for me.  So I practically wrestled this guy for a spot for like 10 minutes, and then this guy behind me, was like "You wannna get in?"  So he started pushing the guy out of my way and I fenangled my way in to about 3rd row, stage left.  The guy that helped me was still behind me, and it ended up that way for the rest of the concert, which was insane.  When Chevelle got on, everyone just PUSHED forward and my feet actually didn't touch the ground for a whole song.  Their show is basically straight forward--pretty simple set, some light staging, and just rocking.  They play an AWESOME live show, and after pushing all the assholes out of my way, I was pretty much front and center for the whole thing.  Apart from feeling like I was going to pass out a couple times, it was amazing.  But the guy behind me kept protecting me from all the fat mosher guys, so I left pretty much unscathed.  Some bruises, soaked in sweat, hair a total mess, make-up running down my face, really thirsty, a cut in my foot from when my shoe came off briefly, ears ringing, but pretty much unscathed.  And oh yeah, I crowd-surfed twice. So it was an unforgettable night and I now love Chevelle like 10 times more than I already did.  Hells yeah.

So I got all my shit figured out for school, and that's been back in swing for a few weeks.  I'm taking 5 classes--Arabic, The French Revolution, Native American Religion, Intro to Shakespeare, & Islam in the Modern World.  The only crappy thing is that I'm commuting 25 min. each way.  Oh yeah, and it's fucking hot in Arizona.  I forgot how crappy it was to be trudging around campus in this heat.  Oh well, it's starting to cool down (kinda). All my classes are pretty interesting, just a lot of reading and discussion.  Got a test and a paper due next week, so I guess this is when I really gotta start kicking it into gear.

My sister got a new kitten from my mom.  She named him Percy and he's awesome (he has a multiple personality disorder though).  He's all purry and cuddly right now.

Wow I guess I don't really have a lot to talk about right now.  I guess I'm finally just all settled in and getting used to my life here again.  It's pretty decent actually.  Just gotta figure out the fastest way to get my ass done with my undergrad.

So I'm back in Arizona, living with my sister.  It is really really nice to be able to see my family any time I want.  I kinda missed the desert too.  We had a crazy monsoon storm today, it never happens that way anywhere else.  Miss Madison quite a bit though.  I really love that place.  Hopefully I'll be back one day.  I'm just working, kind of slacking on my getting back to school duties.  Don't know why that is.  Maybe because I don't want to face the fact that I still don't know what I want to do with the rest of my life, yet I refuse to commit to anything else? Blah.  It will all work out in the end.  Well, I lied.  I do know what I want to do with my life, it's just a little scary to think about trying, and much too easy to fail.  Not really ready to bring that dream to the surface yet.  Been sick a lot still.  I thought maybe the warmer weather would help that, so far it hasn't turned out that way.  I think I'm gonna get sacked if I call in sick anymore.  That would be fucking fantastic.  I think I need to find a job where I'm not exposed to quite so many germs and isn't so physically exhausting.  But something that pays as much as I make now (which still isn't quite enough)?  Unlikely.  Tra la la.  Things could be worse.  Just gotta figure out what the hell is goin on.
